City of the Future 2030 – Closing Event for Phase 2

Ein Mann und eine Frau schütteln sich die Hände vor einem Aufsteller der TFU mit einem Bild von einem Drachen.

A motivational message from the boss for the evening.

How do we want to live and work together in 2030?

Public discussion, citizen workshops, consultation with scientific experts, prototypes, etc.

Two topics have already been spun off and taken forward: Digital Hub and Ulmer Stimmen.

The Verschwörhaus also emerged from this large-scale project.

Stefan presents two prototypes:

Open Budget, a project of the Open Knowledge Foundation, provides a clear overview. Ulm makes data available, but so far it cannot be analyzed automatically. Goal: improved automation.

Prototype Cultural Archive for Shared Cultural Assets. Wikimedia Commons. Digitization project for the Ulm tram.

Sabine Meigel on Ulm’s unique selling point: sustainable digitization—we’re looking forward to Phase 3 and are working hard on the application.

(Prototype Networking: People Counting at Willy-Brandt-Platz.)

Explanatory video about the IoT. Hand-drawn. Cute. But already intended for the application for Phase 3:

Digitalization from the bottom up. Green. Smart. Inclusive. Open.

Panel discussion. Everyone is actually in agreement—Ulrich Becker is supposed to stir things up a bit…

Praise from our academic advisor, Prof. Von Lucke. Ulm is one of a kind. We know that.

Education and participation, says the mayor, are key issues. People are becoming more aware of whom they entrust their data to. It’s a fundamental learning process in which Ulm is demonstrating—and experimenting with—how it’s done.

Sabine Meigel reports on the allure of the Verschwörhaus. Appeal is key. Chaos, disorder, and urban issues go hand in hand, according to Prof. von Lucke.

The mayor argues that appeal to younger generations arises from disruption, a loss of control, and a bottom-up approach.

Fingers crossed for the application for Phase 3! Deadline is the end of July; a decision will be made by October/November. No matter how it turns out, we’re doing it anyway.

Vote via cell phone. Unfortunately, the most popular amount isn’t actually an option. But 1 million is pretty good, too.

Now here comes the main event: Dr. Sven Körner.

In a nutshell: AI is often misunderstood. We need to stay on top of it—and we can do it. That’s what I’m saying.

A few myths are also debunked, such as the one about Facebook’s robot language.

Following a lengthy presentation, the key takeaways were as follows:

Good luck with your application!
