First-aid kit:
Every company with at least one employee is required under the BGV (Occupational Accident Insurance Regulations—Accident Prevention Regulations) to keep a first-aid kit compliant with DIN 13157 (or DIN 13169 for companies with 50 or more employees) available in the workplace. To ensure compliance with the occupational safety association, every injury must be documented in a first-aid log (e.g., even a minor cut that requires a band-aid).
Company First Aider:
Every company with two or more insured employees is required to provide a trained first-aid responder or workplace first-aid responder (for 1–20 employees, one first-aid responder is sufficient; for larger workforces, the number of first-aid responders must be 5% of the total number of employees).
A first-aid training course for workplace first-aid responders lasts 16 hours (2 sessions of 8 hours each). The required refresher training every 2 years lasts 1 day (8 hours).
The courses are offered by, among others, the Red Cross in Ulm/Neu-Ulm and the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) in Ulm/Neu-Ulm. The participation fee (approx. 40.00 to 55.00 euros per person) is covered by your workers’ compensation insurance association for workplace first aid responders. For companies and groups of at least 10 to 15 people (ASB Ulm: 8 or more people), the organizers even offer customized courses directly on your premises. The course meets the requirements of the employers’ liability insurance associations and is also suitable for prospective student teachers and instructors.
Occupational Safety Specialist:
Starting with just one employee, occupational safety and occupational health services must be provided in accordance with the ASiG (Occupational Safety Act) and DGUV V2 (occupational safety specialists, safety officers, company physicians). This can be handled, for example, by external companies or consultants.
Fire extinguishers:
A sufficient number of fire extinguishers must be available. The specific quantity and type required for each business must be determined on a case-by-case basis. (For example, due to the potential damage, it is recommended to use a dedicated CO2 extinguisher for servers and computers rather than powder or foam extinguishers.)
